Samsung’s Galaxy FE phones have built a loyal following by offering many of the features of the company’s flagship Galaxy S series at a more accessible price. But with the Galaxy S26 FE, Samsung may be pushing that formula a little too far.
At first glance, the Galaxy S26 FE looks remarkably similar to its predecessor. The phone retains the same 6.7-inch display, triple-camera setup, battery capacity and charging capabilities, as well as a largely familiar design and in-hand feel.
There is one visible design change: the Galaxy S26 FE features a raised camera island, while the previous model had its camera system sitting flush with the rear panel.
The bigger changes are found under the hood.
The Galaxy S26 FE is powered by Samsung’s newer 3-nanometer Exynos 2500 chipset, replacing the 4nm Exynos 2400 used in its predecessor. The newer processor brings updated CPU cores, while its AMD RDNA 3-based graphics processor has up to 33 percent more work groups. Samsung has also increased the NPU’s computing capacity by 40 percent, potentially giving the phone more power for AI-related tasks.
Software is another major difference. The Galaxy S26 FE is the first phone in the FE lineup to ship with Samsung’s One UI 9, bringing a range of new artificial intelligence features.
The updated Now Brief provides more personalized and customizable briefing cards, while Now Nudge can offer contextual suggestions based on notifications and supported third-party apps.
Samsung has also upgraded Circle to Search, allowing it to identify multiple objects in a single image. Photo Assist now supports natural-language editing, including requests to add or restore elements in photographs.
For video creators, Gemini Omni can create and edit video clips using content from the Gallery. Another AI-powered feature, My FanCam, can track a selected subject and automatically keep it centered in the frame.
But there is an intriguing catch: some of these software features could eventually make their way to the previous-generation Galaxy FE model.
That leaves the Galaxy S26 FE with an interesting proposition. While its design and core hardware remain strikingly close to its predecessor, Samsung is betting that a newer processor and a much heavier emphasis on AI can make the latest Fan Edition feel like a meaningful upgrade.
