Summary Iran’s president signaled openness to diplomacy if US changes stance, while leaders opposed foreign presence in Gulf region.
TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that Tehran is ready to return to diplomacy if there is a change in the United States’ behavior.
In a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, he said instability in the Gulf region was caused by the United States and Israel.
He urged an immediate halt to what he described as US naval “piracy” against Iranian vessels and called for its condemnation.
Separately, on the occasion of the National Day of the Persian Gulf, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei said the future of the Persian Gulf would be brighter without US presence.
He said Tehran and its Gulf neighbors share a common destiny and stressed there was no place for foreign elements in the region.
He defended Iran’s policy of keeping rival powers out of the region, saying Iran considers protection of this strategic waterway a key part of its national security.
Khamenei added that any attempt to impose a naval blockade or sanctions on Iranian ports would violate international law and fail.
His remarks came after US President Donald Trump said Washington had nearly achieved its goals in the conflict with Iran and claimed that Iran was in talks via telephone diplomacy.
