MANAMA (Dunya News) - The United States and 12 Middle Eastern countries have agreed to intensify joint efforts to ensure the uninterrupted flow of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, amid continued focus on regional security and stability.

The agreement was reached during a regional security conference hosted in Bahrain under the leadership of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), where senior military officials discussed the current security situation in the Middle East, regional stability and ways to strengthen defense cooperation.

The meeting was attended by senior military representatives from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining uninterrupted trade through the Strait of Hormuz and enhancing defense coordination to address regional security challenges.

Speaking at the meeting, CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper said the United States stands shoulder to shoulder with its allies in promoting regional security and stability.

He added that, in cooperation with its regional partners, the United States operates what he described as the world's most advanced and effective integrated air and missile defense system in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Iran's deputy foreign minister responded by asserting that the administration of the Strait of Hormuz falls under Iran's authority, not that of CENTCOM.
