TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday that indirect diplomatic communication between Iran and the United States has continued through mediators despite the ongoing conflict.
Speaking at a press conference in Tehran, Baghaei said Iran had received messages from Washington via intermediary countries but declined to disclose further details.
"We have been informed through mediators and have received US messages," he said. "The important point is that diplomatic activity has continued over the past several days, with several mediators conveying different proposals and messages to us."
Baghaei blamed the United States for the recent escalation, reiterating that Iran does not consider neighboring countries to be its enemies.
However, he urged regional governments to fulfill their responsibilities by ensuring their territories are not used to launch attacks against Iran.
"As long as these attacks and acts of aggression continue, our armed forces will continue to respond," he said.
The spokesperson also warned that any attempt by the United States to seize Kharg Island in southern Iran would have serious consequences.
"If the United States attempts such an adventure, it will face the consequences," Baghaei said, adding that Iran's leadership includes individuals who are fully prepared to confront any US ground offensive.
Commenting on the interim agreement reached with the United States, Baghaei said there was "no ambiguity" in the document.
He described the memorandum of understanding as brief, consisting of 14 clauses.
He added that Iran had made clear from the outset that responsibility for the future administration of the Strait of Hormuz rests with Tehran and that the issue would be pursued through consultations with Oman and negotiations with regional countries.
