Summary UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric says 94% of Gaza’s population lacks shelter, while aid restrictions continue to limit access to essential supplies and hamper recovery efforts.

UNITED NATIONS (Dunya News) – UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric has said that 94 percent of Gaza’s population is currently without roofs over their heads, with four out of every five households living without adequate shelter.

According to media reports, Dujarric said several shelters were also facing shortages of fuel, energy and essential household items.

He said restrictions on humanitarian aid were affecting people’s ability to sleep, cook, bathe, eat and store water, maintain adequate lighting and cope with heat and cold.

Dujarric said the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs continued to receive reports of Palestinian civilians being killed or injured in Israeli airstrikes, shelling and gunfire.

He said the bodies of 50 people, including 19 children, were recovered from the rubble on August 21 and buried, adding that they had been killed more than two years earlier.

Dujarric further said efforts to clear rubble and recover bodies were being hampered by restrictions on the entry of heavy machinery, spare parts, lubricants and other essential equipment, as well as restrictions on access to large areas of Gaza.
