Anthropic to spend $45bn on AI computing from Nscale

SAN FRANCISCO (Web Desk) - Artificial intelligence company Anthropic will spend $45 billion to rent AI cloud computing capacity from Nscale’s data center campus in West Virginia, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The agreement comes as Anthropic aggressively expands its computing infrastructure to meet growing demand for products such as its AI coding tool, Claude Code, while the company prepares for a major initial public offering (IPO).

Nscale, a cloud infrastructure provider, will deploy Nvidia’s new Vera Rubin chips to support Anthropic’s computing requirements, the source said.

The six-year agreement is expected to provide approximately 460 megawatts of power capacity.

Anthropic has been investing heavily in GPUs and other computing infrastructure, as well as model training, inference and hiring. The company is projecting revenue of roughly $190 billion to $200 billion in 2028, compared with its current revenue run rate of about $47 billion.

In July, Advanced Micro Devices announced plans to sell Anthropic tens of billions of dollars worth of AI servers while investing up to $5 billion in the company behind Claude.

Anthropic has also agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May 2029 for computing capacity, according to SpaceX’s IPO filing. The agreement covers SpaceX’s Colossus and Colossus II AI training data center clusters.

Anthropic declined to comment on the reported Nscale agreement.
