RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – The ICC Champions Trophy Group A match between Pakistan and Bangladesh has been washed out due to persistent rain.
Scheduled to take place at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the match could not commence as heavy rain and a wet outfield prevented even the toss from taking place.
The toss was initially set for 1:30 PM local time, with the match slated to begin at 2:00 PM. However, after multiple field inspections, the umpires decided to call off the match, awarding both teams one point each.
Both sides had suffered back-to-back defeats, their hopes for a semi-final spot have already dashed. However, they aimed to salvage their campaign by securing a consolation victory and restoring some pride.
As the tournament's host nation, Pakistan endured a dismal start, losing both their opening matches and missing out on the knockout stage. Their first encounter saw them crumble against New Zealand in Karachi, suffering a 60-run defeat that left fans disheartened. The highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals India in Dubai also ended in disappointment, as Pakistan fell short by 5 wickets, sealing their early exit from the competition.
Similarly, Bangladesh's campaign has been a story of struggles. In their opening match, they put up a fighting total of 228 against India in Dubai, but the opposition chased it down with ease, winning by 6 wickets. Their second outing in Rawalpindi against New Zealand on a batting-friendly surface saw them falter yet again, failing to post a competitive score. A 5-wicket loss in that game confirmed their elimination, adding to their string of underwhelming performances.
Though both teams are out of contention, they will be eager to end their campaign on a high note, making this clash a battle for redemption.
