PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed three terrorists in a successful operation in Peshawar on Tuesday, while two of their accomplices managed to flee, officials said.

According to the CTD, the action was carried out on the directives of the Inspector General of Police, KP, as part of ongoing targeted operations aimed at wiping out terrorism from the province.

The CTD said it received confirmed intelligence that several militants were present near the Khun Baba graveyard on Azakhel Road, within the limits of Matani police station, and were planning a major terrorist activity. Acting on the tip-off, CTD Special Weapons and Tactics teams conducted a raid in the area.

During the operation, the terrorists opened fire on the police party. The CTD team returned fire in self-defence, resulting in the killing of three unidentified terrorists, while two others escaped under the cover of darkness.

Weapons recovered from the site included three Kalashnikov rifles and nine magazines, the department said.

The Inspector General of Police KP and the Additional IG CTD praised the CTD personnel for the successful operation.

They said such actions were crucial for safeguarding the lives and property of citizens and vowed to further step up operations against anti-state elements.
