LAHORE (Dunya News) - Police have registered a case after a 20-year-old Azerbaijani woman was allegedly subjected to gang rape in Lahore’s Defence area, officials said.
Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Investigation Zeeshan Raza said the suspects allegedly involved in the incident had been identified and special teams had been formed to arrest them.
According to the DIG, the teams will be headed by Cantt Investigation Superintendent of Police Asim Iftikhar. He said all available resources were being utilised to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
Police said the woman, identified as Diana, had arrived in Lahore a few days earlier. According to the preliminary account, two unidentified women allegedly befriended her and took her to a café, where three of their male associates were present.
The suspects allegedly gave the woman a drink after which she became unconscious, police said. She was allegedly sexually assaulted and later left near the airport, according to the police account.
Authorities have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
