Faiz Festival 2025 - Lahore celebrates literary spring

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Alhamra Arts Center is abuzz with intellectual activities as the three-day Faiz Festival began on Friday.
The ninth edition of the much-awaited event on literary calendar began with an art exhibition titled “Tum Apni Karni Kar Guzro” which set the tone for an intellectually and emotionally charged event.
The event, being organised by the Faiz Ghar Foundation, will conclude on Sunday.
According to the organisers, “…the revolutionary spirit of one of Urdu literature’s most treasured voices continues to resonate through the historic streets of Lahore.
“Faiz Ahmed Faiz gave voice to the voiceless, wielding his pen as an instrument of hope and resistance, crafting verses that transformed personal longing into universal struggle for justice.
“In this celebration, we weave together poetry readings, soul-stirring performances, impassioned discussions, and creative encounters that honor his enduring legacy.”
The festival, they say, aims to uphold the rich artistic legacy of Faiz Ahmad Faiz while fostering harmony, unity and a deep appreciation for cultural diversity.
There will be several interactive sessions, including literary discussions, poetry recitations, theatrical performances, book launches, concerts and cultural workshops over three days.
SESSION ON FAIZ'S POETRY
A session dedicated to the poetry of Faiz, featuring esteemed literary figures such as Zehra Nigah, Iftikhar Arif, and moderator Dr Saif Mahmood, will be one of the key attractions.
TUM JO CHAHO SUNO
In another engaging session, “Tum Jo Chaho Tou Suno,” cultural ambassador Moneeza Hashmi will converse with acclaimed Indian actress and filmmaker Nandita Das, fostering cross-border dialogue through literature and arts.
TRIBUTE TO BAPSI SIDHWA
The festival will also pay homage to Bapsi Sidhwa by celebrating her contributions to storytelling and highlighting the influence of South Asian literature on the global stage.
HUM DHARTI KI MALKAIN HAIN
Another session “Hum Dharti Ki Malkain Hain” (We Are the Queens of the Land) will acknowledge the remarkable achievements of women across various fields.
Sessions of Palestine, Urdu language, and legacy of television dramas are also expected to have good audience.
Vocalists Shafqat Amanat Ali and Sara Raza Khan will enthrall music buffs.
Among outdoor activities will be open-mic poetry sessions and drum circle. Groups of visitors hold 'sessions' of their own outdoors, basking in the glory of Lahore's mega cultural event.
There will also be books on discounted rates as well as refreshments.
