LAHORE (Dunya News) - The 114th birth anniversary of Faiz Ahmad Faiz, a legendary poet and writer of the subcontinent, is being observed on Thursday.

Faiz was born on Feb 13, 1911 at Kala Qader in Narowal district of Punjab. He was a member of the Progressive Writers Movement and a Marxist.

His literary works include 'Naqsh-e-Faryadi', 'Dast-e-Saba', 'Zindan-Nama', 'Dast-e-Tah-e-Sung', 'Mere Dil Mere Musafir', 'Sar-e-Wadi-e-Sina' which have been combined as one book 'Nuskha Haa-e-Wafa'.

Faiz was awarded Pakistan’s highest civil award Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 1990 in recognition of his services in literature.

The revolutionary poet also received many other awards including Nigar Award, Lenin Peace Prize, Peace Prize of Pakistan's Human Rights Commission and Avicenna Prize.

He passed away in Lahore on Nov 20, 1984.

Faiz Foundation (which is run by his family) recollects the fond memories of the luminary by holding a festival in his honour.

The latest edition of the three-day festival is beginning in Lahore on Friday.

The event will feature discussions on diversified themes, poetry, literature, arts and culture.
