(Dunya News) - Pakistani film Mera Lyari has been officially selected for screening at the 28th edition of the UK Asian Film Festival. The film is scheduled to be showcased on May 2.

The story of Mera Lyari revolves around the sports culture, local traditions, and women’s empowerment in Lyari, offering a positive and refreshing perspective of the area.

Initially titled Behnaz, the film was later renamed Mera Lyari following the release of an Indian film 'Dhurandhar', after which it gained significant attention in media circles.

Directed by Abu Aleeha, the film was described by the Sindh government as a response to anti-Pakistan narratives. Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon had earlier hinted at a nationwide release in January, which was delayed.

The film is now set for a nationwide release across Pakistan on May 8.

Mera Lyari also marks the film debut of Dananeer Mobeen. The cast includes Nayyer Ejaz, Samina Mumtaz, and Adnan Shah among others.

In addition to acting, Ayesha Omar has also served as the executive producer of the film. She previously stepped into film production with Taxali Gate in 2024.

It is worth mentioning that director Abu Aleeha had earlier won the Best Director award at the same festival in 2022 for Javed Iqbal, while actor Yasir Hussain received the Best Actor award for his role in the film.
