(WEb Desk) - A photo from 2018 showing a man being led away by agents of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was altered to include a t-shirt message of support for President Donald Trump.

Trump's executive orders since taking office include actions aimed at deporting record numbers of migrants in the US without legal status.

The photo shared, opens new tab on social media shows a person wearing a gray T-shirt with "Latinos for Trump 2024" on the back, flanked by two agents wearing vests marked "POLICE ICE."

The Spanish-language comedy website El Chigüire Bipolar shared, opens new tab the same image on Jan 27.

The US Department of Defense's Visual Information Distribution Service shared, opens new tab the original photograph on June 19, 2018, but the t-shirt did not have any writing on the back.

In addition, the agents had Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) initials, a division of ICE, on their vests.

Another photo, opens new tab from the same date, but a different angle, also shows the man without the "Latinos for Trump 2024" message.

The photo's description says the detention was related to a criminal search warrant being executed at a food processing plant in Ohio, which led to the identification of more than 100 workers "subject to arrest for immigration violations".

The Trump administration stepped up immigration arrests in recent days with about 1,000-1,200 a day, according to ICE, far above the daily average of 311 in fiscal year 2024.

Trump commanded a 14-percentage-point swing in his share of Hispanic voters in the 2024 presidential election, according to an exit poll conducted by Edison Research. Some 46% of self-identified Hispanic voters picked Trump, up from 32% in the 2020 election when Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.
