ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan to launch a special anti-polio vaccination campaign across 79 selected districts from May 18 to May 24, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).
The NEOC said the drive aims to administer polio drops to around 19 million children under the age of five, with more than 160,000 frontline workers taking part in the nationwide effort.
Officials said the campaign will be conducted simultaneously in Pakistan and Afghanistan to help curb the spread of the virus more effectively.
Breakdown of the campaign shows that in Punjab’s 10 targeted districts, approximately 6.19 million children will be vaccinated. In Sindh’s 20 districts, around 5.79 million children will receive the drops, while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 23 districts, the number stands at 4.61 million. In Balochistan’s 25 districts, about 1.99 million children will be covered.
In the federal capital, Islamabad, around 450,000 children are expected to receive polio vaccination.
The NEOC urged parents to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that all children under five years of age receive polio drops, stressing that the initiative is crucial to protecting children from lifelong disability.
