ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar will visit Pakistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting scheduled in Islamabad on Oct 15-16.

According to the spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, India will participate in the SCO meeting in Pakistan.

The spokesperson stated that Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar will go to Pakistan to attend the SCO summit on October 15-16, marking his first visit to Pakistan.

The Indian ministry further mentioned that details regarding bilateral meetings in Pakistan will be shared in a few days.

Pakistan had sent an invitation to India to participate in the SCO Heads of State Summit. However, India had decided not to send its delegation to Pakistan and said it would participate online.

The spokesperson for the Foreign Office had also mentioned that an invitation had been sent to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The federal government approved a comprehensive plan to ensure strict security for the upcoming gathering of regional leaders.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated during the meeting that additional personnel from the Pakistan Army, Rangers, Frontier Corps (FC), and Punjab police would be deployed for security duties at the SCO summit.

In May last year, the then-foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari visited India for the two-day SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, marking the first visit to India by a senior Pakistani official since then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony in 2014.
