LAHORE (Dunya News) - A Lahore police team claimed on Thursday to have arrested an impersonator who had earlier claimed to be the mother of alleged victim in the incident involving a private college. 

A propaganda was disseminated on social media by Sara Khan who claimed that she was the mother of the victim.

A Model Town CIA police team arrested suspect Sara Khan from outside courts on Thursday. 

A case was earlier registered against the suspect in the Gulberg police station under PECA.

DIG Organised Crime Unit Imran Kishwar said the suspect would be brought to court to seek her physical remand. 

SOCIAL MEDIA PROPAGANDA 

Sara Khan had shared a video on social media on Oct 18 claiming that she was the mother of alleged rape victim studying in a private college.

The suspect disseminated fake propaganda on social media and incited the public.

Sara Khan has been identified as a resident of Karachi. 

Earlier, police had declared the incident fake and fabricated.

The DIG Operations Faisal Kamran had said that no complaint was registered in this specific case and students were being misled.

“We visited all the public and private sector hospitals of the city and couldn’t find any victim,” said the DIG Operations of Lahore Police.

A special team was also constituted on the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to investigate the incident.

Addressing a press conference, chief minister also termed the incident fake and baseless.

She said that a propaganda was disseminated against the student on social media and therefore stern action should be taken against the perpetrators.

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) also gave its findings and declared that no such incident was reported.

The JIT conducted interviews of 28 students before reaching the conclusion.

The JIT also met the girl admitted in the ICU and said that she got injured after she fell at her home.
