PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - In a significant move to ensure the implementation of the Kurram peace agreement, it has been decided to form committees representing both parties involved in the conflict.

The decision was made during a peace jirga held on Friday in Kurram district, attended by tribal elders, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Chaudhry Nadeem Aslam, Kohat Commissioner and other government officials.

The jirga emphasised the strict enforcement of the peace agreement, with the formation of committees from both sides to oversee its implementation. The date for the next jirga will be announced after mutual consultation.

Tribal elders highlighted that the Kurram issue stemmed from deep-seated hatred, stressing that people have strayed from the teachings of Islam, which promote unity and harmony.

Chief Secretary Chaudhry Nadeem Aslam underscored the joint responsibility of both the government and Kurram’s tribal leaders in maintaining peace. He announced the approval of a relief package for the region and warned that any attempts by miscreants to disrupt peace would be met with legal action.

He further stated that peace benefited everyone and urged both parties to support the government’s efforts in restoring stability. While an operation remained an option, he cautioned that such a measure would have widespread consequences for all involved.
