Lower courts to function 24 hours to decide 1.4 million cases: CJ Afridi's proposal

He has also sought a legal opinion on this issue.
Almost 1.4 million cases are still pending with the lower courts of Punjab. As many as 700 seats of judges of sessions courts are still vacant. Now, to speed up the process of solving cases, the courts would have to function both day and night.
In a letter written by the DG Directorate District Judiciary of the Lahore High Court to the district and sessions judges, it has been stated that Chief Justice Justice Yahya Afridi, as the Chairman National Judicial Policy Making Committee, is keen to start double shifts in courts to solve the cases pending in the lower judiciary of Punjab.
The letter has directed that all district and sessions judges of Punjab should give their opinion regarding this proposal of the chief justice.
