PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - The Pashtun FATA National Consultative Jirga has said the government should take effective and concrete steps to restore peace in the tribes.

According to a statement issued by the Jirga, it expressed concern over the worsening law and order situation in the tribes and southern districts. The participants proposed that the path of purposeful and effective negotiations should be adopted to maintain peace.

The statement expressed concern over the lack of basic health and education facilities in the tribal areas.

The participants urged the authorities that the tribal people should also be provided with facilities equal to those in urban areas, and the resources and income sources of the tribes and the province should be spent on the development of the Pashtun nation.

The participants demanded that the agricultural tax imposed on the demand of the IMF should be withdrawn immediately, and that Maulana Fazlur Rehman should invite all Pashtun political leadership to the APC.

The participants said that Bajaur, Khyber, Kurram and other routes should be reopened for commercial activities, and missing persons across the country should be presented in courts for legal action.
