Finance Committee will decide on salary increases for both assembly members and senators.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The bill amending lawmakers' salaries and allowances has been approved by both the Senate and the National Assembly.
Under this bill, the Finance Committee will decide on salary increases for both assembly members and senators.
As per the amendment, lawmakers' salaries will be equivalent to federal secretaries, and the decision on their pay will rest with the Finance Committee instead of the Secretariat.
According to National Assembly sources, this increase was made in line with the pay scale of a federal secretary. Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has signed the order approving the salary increase for MNAs.
Under this new order, after all deductions, the monthly salary and allowances of a federal secretary will also be Rs519,000.
Parliamentary sources revealed that lawmakers initially demanded a further increase, seeking Rs1 million per month, but Speaker Ayaz Sadiq rejected the proposal and finalised the salary at Rs519,000.
