LAHORE (Dunya News) - Shab-e-Barat is being observed in the country, as elsewhere in the Islamic world, with reverence on Thursday night.

Shab-e-Barat is known as a night of forgiveness and divine mercy, and the faithful seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty, pray in mosques and arrange gatherings for collective prayers.

Many people observe fast the very next day to express submissiveness and gratitude for the blessings.

The night of blessings is observed by Muslims on the night between 14 and 15 Shaa’ban. It is regarded as a night of forgiveness and time when the fortunes of human beings for the coming year are decided.

People, while following the Sunnah of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him), visit the graves of dear ones to pay homage and pray for their high ranks.

The faithful also flock to mosques and shrines, where they recite the Holy Quran and Darood Sharif, offer Nawafil to seek maximum blessings of Allah Almighty, and invoke blessings of saints and seers.

Religious scholars deliver special sermons and highlight the true teachings and message of Islam in the mosques.

SHABAN MOON

On Jan 30, 2025, the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced that Shaban-ul-Moazzam moon had been sighted in the country.
The committee announced that the first Shaban would fall on Jan 31 (Friday) and Shab-e-Barat would be observed on Feb 13.
