Harassment at workplace impediment to women's professional growth: Justice Mansoor

LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court, remarked that harassment at workplace is impediment to women’s economic and professional growth. 

The Supreme Court on Thursday disposed of woman harassment accused's plea for reversal of decision of being sent on forced retirement. 

The accused pleaded before the court that he should be restored to his job. 

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, issued the detailed verdict of the case. 

The court order said that Pakistan ranks at 145th number out of 146 countries in the Global Gender Gap Index.

Dr Sidra Zafar launched a complaint of harassment against her driver with the Punjab ombudsman.

 

Driver Muhammad Din was accused of harassment through his actions and words. 

He made a video of Dr Sidra when she was performing an ultrasound of a patient and tried to malign her. 

The Punjab ombudsman had sent the driver on forced retirement and the order was later also retained by the Lahore High Court.

“The harassment at workplace erodes the independence and self-respect of a person,” the SC observed.
