Shahid Khaqan Abbasi asserted that rifts exist even within opposition parties
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Awam Pakistan Party head Shahid Khaqan Abbasi asserted that rifts exist even within opposition parties, stressing that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is solely focused on securing the release of Imran Khan.
Speaking to Dunya News programme "Baat Niklegi", Abbasi clarified that his party has no intention of joining any protest on a political container. "If any party wishes to hold rallies, they are free to do so on their own," he stated.
Addressing judicial matters, Abbasi remarked that after the 26th constitutional amendment, the Chief Justice no longer holds decisive powers. "Today, the system of justice is in the hands of the executive, not the Chief Justice," he said, adding that he had always been aware of the true motives behind the movement for judicial independence. "That movement was, in reality, aimed at removing General Parvez Musharraf," he claimed.
Referring to past events, Abbasi disclosed that the government had planned to send Musharraf abroad, but the move was blocked. "Musharraf’s aircraft was not allowed to leave, and the military did not accept the change in Army leadership," he revealed.
Responding to a question, Abbasi accused former Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa of orchestrating the ouster of his government. "After I became Prime Minister, General Bajwa met me and said, ‘It is our responsibility to respect you,’" he recalled.
On the subject of Dawn Leaks, Abbasi revealed that both General Bajwa and Nawaz Sharif were displeased with him over the matter. "Nawaz Sharif felt that he had been treated unfairly," he remarked.
