LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - A member of the Judicial Commission, Akhtar Hussain, representing lawyers in the appointment of judges to higher courts, has resigned from his position.

He submitted his resignation to the Judicial Commission Chairman, Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi.

In his resignation letter, Akhtar Hussain stated that the Pakistan Bar Council had nominated him as a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan three times under the constitution, and he had performed his duties to the best of his abilities.

He further wrote that due to recent controversies surrounding judicial appointments, he could no longer continue in his role.

Therefore, he was stepping down from his position and sending a copy of his resignation to the Pakistan Bar Council, so a new member could be nominated under the 1973 Constitution.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Bar Council has scheduled a meeting on February 26 to elect a new member to represent lawyers in the Judicial Commission.
