LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a five-year transport programme to introduce a modern Automated Rapid Transport (ART) system across the province.

Chairing a special video-link meeting on transport, CM Maryam was briefed that ART is a globally successful mass transit system used in Malaysia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar.

It requires less rod space than conventional buses. She directed an immediate trial run for the project.

The ART system will feature three-coach buses with a capacity of over 300 passengers, solar-powered charging, fast-charging stations, Wi-Fi and monitoring cameras.

Initially, the buses will be launched in Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, expanding to 30 cities in three phases.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need for a modern transport system to improve citizens’ quality of life.
