ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Judicial Commission of Pakistan approved the inclusion of five more judges in the Supreme Court's constitutional bench.

According to sources, the newly appointed judges—Justices Hashim Kakar, Aamer Farooq, Shakeel Ahmed, Ishtiaq Ibrahim, and Salahuddin Panhwar—became part of the constitutional bench, bringing the total number of judges in the bench to 13.

The decision to expand the bench was approved by a majority vote.

However, Justices Muneeb Akhtar and Mansoor Ali Shah opposed the move. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members Ali Zafar and Barrister Gohar also expressed their dissent, arguing that all Supreme Court judges should be included in the constitutional bench instead of selectively adding more names.

The recommendation to induct five additional judges was made by Justice Ameenuddin, the head of the constitutional bench.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that three more judges have been nominated for the constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court. Justice Riazat Sahar, Justice Nisar Ahmed Bhambhro, and Justice Abdul Hameed will now be part of the Sindh High Court’s constitutional bench.
