LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - The Lahore High Court on Friday acquitted four accused of honour killing.

The accused were facing life imprisonment and seven years of imprisonment each in an honour killing case registered in Pakpattan.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum issued the 22-page written verdict on the appeals filed by the accused who challenged their sentences.

The accused, including Ali Akbar and Hafiz Arshad, were charged with the murder of Muhammad Ali.

The case was registered against the accused in Pakpattan in 2020 under the murder charges.

In 2023, the trial court sentenced Ali Akbar to life imprisonment and his accomplices to seven years of imprisonment each.

According to the prosecution, the accused had killed the complainant’s son due to illicit relations with his daughter.

However, it was later found that the reason for murder was timber theft.

According to the verdict, the complainant had filed the case one and a half year after the incident.

The statements of the prosecution’s witnesses also contained multiple contradictions, it added.

Later, the court ordered release of all the accused in the case.
