KARACHI (Dunya New) – A clip on social media has gone viral featuring a meteor sparkling over the sky in Karachi, leaving the stargazers in awe.

The people of the metropolis caught sight of the shooting star when they just offered their Fajr prayers. They were amazed to see this rare happing.

The meteor hurtled through sky over different areas of Karachi and was visible to stargazers when it died out.

Social media users reported seeing a fast-moving colourful object in the sky which shortly disappeared. But they captured its movement in their mobile phones and shared it with their friends and loved ones.

It graced the sky at around 6am over the sky and remained visible for quite some times. Astronomical experts are of the view that such event happens rock could be seen burning up in the Earth's atmosphere, before crashing to the ground.

A meteor is a space rock—or meteoroid—that enters Earth's atmosphere. As the space rock falls toward the ground, the resistance—or drag—of the air on the rock makes it extremely hot.

They are commonly called "shooting stars". According to Nasa, the bright streak is not actually the rock, but rather the glowing hot air as the hot rock zips through the Earth's atmosphere. When Earth encounters many meteoroids at once, it is called a "meteor shower".
