Karachi Bar Association moves Supreme Court against IHC judges' transfer

Pakistan
It urges that the President lacks unchecked authority to transfer judges
ISLAMABAD (Dunya New ) – The Karachi Bar Association has petitioned the Supreme Court against the transfer of judges in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Filed by advocate Faisal Siddiqui, the petition names the President, the federal government, and the Supreme Court Registrar as respondents, along with registrars of the Lahore, Islamabad, Sindh, and Balochistan high courts, as well as both transferred and affected judges.
Invoking Article 184(3) of the Constitution, the petition calls for the annulment of the new seniority list and the appointment of the acting IHC chief justice. It argues that the President lacks unchecked authority to transfer judges, a move that threatens judicial independence.
Furthermore, the petition deems the transfer notification unconstitutional and demands that the affected judges retake their oath.
