ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Judicial Commission has approved the permanent appointment of three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court.

According to an official statement, a meeting of the Judicial Commission was held under the chairmanship of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi, where important judicial matters were discussed.

During the meeting, the issue of making three additional judges of the Islamabad High Court permanent was reviewed in detail. The commission also deliberated on the permanent appointment of two additional judges of the Balochistan High Court.

The meeting further considered the formulation of rules for the appointment of judges to the Federal Constitutional Court.

As per the statement, the commission approved the permanent appointments of Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, Justice Muhammad Asif, and Justice Inam Amin Minhas of the Islamabad High Court.

The statement added that the commission confirmed Justice Najmuddin Mengal as a permanent judge of the Balochistan High Court, while the permanent appointment of Justice Ayub Khan was rejected by a majority vote. A committee was also formed to review the criteria for nominating judges to constitutional benches. The committee will prepare recommendations regarding the appointment process, interview procedures, and amendments to existing rules.

Sources said that Justice Muneeb Akhtar opposed the permanent appointment of Justice Muhammad Asif.

Sources further revealed that two members of PTI did not attend the Judicial Commission meeting. Chief Justice Yahya Afridi informed the commission about their absence.

During the meeting, the car accident involving Justice Asif’s son was also discussed. Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar briefed the commission members on the matter, while Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani stated that Justice Asif did not exert any pressure on anyone regarding the incident.
