ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday led a fresh round of high-level diplomacy, beginning with a detailed telephonic conversation with Sergey Lavrov, as Islamabad continues to strengthen ties with Russia while navigating a complex regional environment.
The exchange centred on bilateral relations and coordination at multilateral fora, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to supporting international peace and security. Pakistan and Russia have maintained steady engagement in recent years, with cooperation spanning political, economic and strategic domains, alongside coordination at platforms such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
Lavrov acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States, particularly as indirect contacts and ceasefire efforts continue to shape regional developments. Pakistan has remained actively engaged in relaying messages and encouraging negotiations between the two sides.
Dar underscored Islamabad’s commitment to dialogue-driven solutions, stressing that sustained diplomatic engagement remains essential for resolving conflicts and maintaining long-term stability. The conversation also reflected a shared emphasis on continued high-level contacts.
Both sides discussed the rescheduling of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s planned visit to Russia, with both capitals exploring an early mutually convenient date. Dar extended an invitation to Lavrov to visit Pakistan, signalling intent to further deepen bilateral ties through direct engagement. The two foreign ministers agreed to remain in close contact as diplomatic activity continues.

Earlier in the day, Dar also held a separate telephonic conversation with Abbas Araghchi, shifting focus to regional tensions, ceasefire dynamics and Islamabad’s ongoing diplomatic efforts.
According to the Foreign Office, both sides exchanged views on recent developments, including the evolving situation surrounding US-Iran engagement and efforts to maintain a fragile ceasefire.
Dar emphasised that continuous dialogue and diplomatic engagement remain critical to resolving outstanding issues and preventing further escalation. Araghchi, in turn, appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in regional diplomacy, with both sides agreeing to maintain close coordination.
Pakistan’s leadership has remained actively engaged with multiple international stakeholders in recent weeks, as part of broader efforts to support de-escalation and facilitate dialogue amid heightened geopolitical tensions.
During the conversation, Araghchi also commented on Iran’s internal situation, stating that despite external pressures and ongoing tensions, the country’s institutions remain unified and coordinated. He described military and diplomatic efforts as interconnected fronts operating in parallel.
His remarks came amid contrasting claims from Donald Trump, who has suggested divisions within Iran’s political structure while expressing interest in securing a long-term agreement with Tehran.
