Summary Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz orders strict action against overcharging, overloading, and unfit buses ahead of Eid, with inspections, fare displays, and helpline 1071 launched
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed strict action against overcharging, overloading, and unfit public transport vehicles during the upcoming Eidul Azha rush.
She instructed deputy commissioners and district police officers to ensure thorough inspections of all buses and bus stands across the province.
The chief minister also ordered that official fare lists must be clearly displayed on every bus and at terminals to prevent passengers from being overcharged.
Authorities have been told to cancel route permits and terminal licenses of transport operators found involved in excessive charging. She further directed that vehicles without fitness certificates should be taken off the road and strict action be ensured against overcrowding.
In addition, she emphasized providing clean drinking water at bus stations for passengers. The Transport Department has also launched a helpline (1071) for citizens to report complaints related to overcharging.
