ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Group Captain was shot dead after intervening to help a woman who was allegedly being taken against her will in Islamabad, police said on Sunday.

According to police, the incident occurred on Ninth Avenue when Group Captain Asim, who was passing through the area, noticed a motorcyclist allegedly forcing a woman to accompany him. The officer stopped his vehicle and stepped in to assist her.

Police said the woman ran toward the other side of the officer's vehicle during the confrontation. The suspect, identified by police as Saad, allegedly argued with Group Captain Asim before opening fire.

The officer sustained critical injuries and died at the scene, while the suspect fled, police said.

Authorities have registered a criminal case and launched an investigation. Police said the woman's statement has been recorded.

According to her statement, the suspect worked at the same office. She alleged that he had offered to drop her at work but changed the route during the journey and allegedly attempted to take her to another location against her will. She further alleged that when she resisted, he tried to force her, before Group Captain Asim intervened.

Police said raids are underway at multiple locations to apprehend the suspect and that the investigation remains in progress.

Group Captain Asim is survived by his wife, a daughter, and a son.

The incident has prompted widespread public tributes on social media, with many praising the officer's actions. Law enforcement officials said efforts are continuing to arrest the suspect and bring him before the courts.
