ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Police in Lahore arrested a man after gunfire was fired from a vehicle near the car of Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, authorities said on Sunday, adding that preliminary investigations indicate the incident was not a targeted attack.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in Lahore's Defence A area while Tarar was travelling with his family. According to police, the suspect, identified as Osama, was arrested shortly after the incident, and the firearm used in the shooting, along with the vehicle, was seized.
Police said a criminal case has been registered against the suspect, and further legal proceedings are underway. Investigators tracked down the suspect using Safe City surveillance cameras and other modern investigative technology.
Speaking about the incident, Tarar said another vehicle overtook his car, and a person inside brandished a pistol before firing shots into the air. He said members of his staff followed the vehicle, noted its registration number and immediately alerted police.
Tarar stressed that he was not the intended target and said the suspect was unaware that a federal minister was travelling in the vehicle. He added that neither he nor his family members were harmed.
Lahore Police said initial findings suggest the incident was an act of aerial firing rather than a targeted attack, though the investigation remains ongoing.
