MOGADISHU (Dunya News) – Five crew members, including three Pakistanis, were killed and four others injured during an operation by Puntland security forces against pirates aboard the hijacked vessel Honor 25 in Somalia.
Details of the incident emerged during a conversation between the ship’s Second Engineer Hussain Yousaf and the chairperson of a charity organization. The Pakistani crew members killed in the operation were identified as Second Officer Kashif Umar, Third Engineer Mahmood Ansari and Oiler Rafiullah Khan.
The other two crew members killed were identified as Indian crew member Tanveer and the chief engineer from Myanmar. The vessel’s crew included Indian, Myanmar, Indonesian and 10 Pakistani nationals.
According to Hussain Yousaf, Fourth Engineer Usman, Aqeel, Ameen and an Indonesian crew member were injured during the security operation. He said the injured crew members were in critical condition and urgently required medical treatment.
Yousaf said the ship’s steering system was also damaged during the operation. As a result, the vessel was being towed toward Bosaso after being secured to another ship. It could take around three days for the vessel to reach the port.
He appealed for immediate assistance, saying the condition of the injured crew members was critical and helicopters should be sent to provide them with timely medical treatment.
The Honor 25 was hijacked by Somali pirates on April 21, 2026. Somali security forces subsequently launched an operation to recover the vessel.
