ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Talks between the opposition and the government end without any positive outcome, which means a deadlock persists amid PTI call for a long march on Islamabad from Sunday (today).

The deadlock between the government and PTI had shifted to counterterrorism-related administrative matters.

According to the sources, the PTI was reluctant to accept certain administrative measures in areas affected by terrorism and was also hesitant over the government's position on counterterrorism strategy.

The sources said the government had made clear that progress on other issues would also remain blocked if there was no movement on the counterterrorism matter.

Opposition leader Allama Nasir Abbas said a deadlock remains in negotiations with the government, matters will not be finalised until the meeting with the PTI founder.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also met with President Asif Zardari. He consulted with top political leadership and legal experts.

CONFLICTING NEWS ABOUT THE DEADLOCK AND BREAKTHROUGH

Earlier, conflicting news about the deadlock and breakthrough continued to pour in as opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has insisted on having a meeting with incarcerated PTI founder Imran before striking a deal with the government.

Opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai contacted the opposition leaders by telephone and spoke to Barrister Gohar and Asad Qaiser.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that first there will be a meeting with the founder PTI, then a decision will be made.

No announcement or decision is possible without meeting the founder. Limit yourself to the fact that only after meeting the founder will a decision be made, he said.

Allama Nasir Abbas also spoke to Mahmood Khan Achakzai during a break in the talks.

During this, both opposition leaders agreed that the long march could not be postponed without meeting the founder.
Negotiations between the government and the opposition have succeeded as they finalised and signed a draft agreement.

The negotiators from the government and the opposition have signed the much-awaited draft after they finalised it in a huddle held to ease political tensions amid the PTI planned long march on Islamabad on Sunday today, Dunya News has learnt.

The government and the opposition discussed ways and thorny issues in the meeting which lasted several hours. Both parties held consultations and debates with their respective stakeholders and leaders to reach the final draft.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq played a phenomenal role in finalizing the draft.

Earlier, it was reported that the federal government and opposition have made progress in negotiations aimed at easing political tensions, with a joint declaration prepared following the second round of talks in Islamabad on Saturday.

The meeting, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, brought together representatives of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the opposition alliance.

The discussions took place amid mounting pressure to resolve differences over the opposition’s planned long march to the federal capital on October 4.

The breakthrough followed an opening round of negotiations on Friday, when the two sides exchanged their positions on the prevailing political situation. Saturday’s meeting initially witnessed disagreements over public statements by political leaders and the opposition’s plans for the march, but the discussions subsequently made progress, according to reports citing sources familiar with the negotiations. A written agreement was also reported to be under preparation.
