Summary Islamabad airport Customs seize 47 kilograms of suspected drugs in two operations, arresting passengers and initiating legal proceedings.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Customs authorities at Islamabad International Airport seized a total of 47 kilograms of suspected drugs in two separate operations against drug smuggling attempts over the past week.
According to Customs officials, passengers arriving from abroad on Thai Airways flight TG-349 were subjected to strict surveillance and checking on October 2, 2026.
During the inspection, a Thai national, Naeehaphong Pueehykosai, was stopped and searched. Customs officials recovered 23 kilograms of suspected cannabis/weed from his possession, estimated to be worth around Rs31 million.
Officials said a special vigilance team was formed on the basis of credible information under the supervision of the Assistant Collector Customs (AB), Airport. The recovered material was seized and the passenger was detained for further legal proceedings. A case was also registered against him.
In another operation, Customs officials stopped an incoming passenger on the basis of a tip-off and recovered 24 kilograms of hashish from his possession. The international market value of the seized drugs was estimated at around Rs310 million.
Customs officials said 55 kilograms of hashish worth Rs550 million had also been seized from an incoming passenger on September 28. Legal proceedings against the passengers arrested in both operations are underway.
