RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF), at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where they discussed regional security and international peace and security.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), matters of mutual interest, the prevailing regional security environment and the UN’s role in promoting international peace and security came under discussion during the meeting.

The two sides exchanged views on regional stability, the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, India’s abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty and terrorism emanating from Afghanistan.

Field Marshal Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to international peace and highlighted the country’s contributions to UN peacekeeping missions.

He also appreciated the UN’s role under the leadership of Secretary-General António Guterres in advancing peace, stability and humanitarian cooperation.

The UN chief paid tribute to the sacrifices and contributions made by Pakistan and its armed forces in the war against terrorism and UN peacekeeping missions.

Guterres also acknowledged Pakistan’s continued commitment to international peace and security and specifically appreciated the country’s efforts towards the peaceful resolution of regional conflicts.
