ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - PPP stalwart Farooq H. Naek has resigned from the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), the constitutional body responsible for appointments to the superior judiciary.
Naek confirmed his resignation to Dawn, saying he stepped down due to personal commitments. In a one-page letter addressed to Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, he expressed gratitude for being appointed to the JCP from the treasury benches.
Naek described his service on the commission as a “great honour and privilege” and had participated in proceedings concerning the appointment of judges to various high courts and the Supreme Court.

A senior lawyer and long-time PPP member, Naek has represented PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari before the Supreme Court and appeared in several constitutional cases involving reserved seats, accountability laws, presidential immunities and provincial assembly disputes.
Naek has served as a senator from Sindh since 2003. He was appointed federal law minister after the 2008 general elections and was reappointed in April 2012 after completing his three-year term as Senate chairman.
