(Web Desk) - Users across multiple regions reported disruptions affecting Facebook and Instagram on Sunday, according to real-time outage tracking platform Downdetector.

The two social media platforms, both owned by Meta, appeared to experience service interruptions, with users reporting issues accessing the apps and websites

Thousands of Facebook users have taken to the Downdetector platform, which allows users of sites to report issues and outages, to report problems.

More than 4,000 people reported an issue with the social media platform this morning at approximately 8.45am.

One Facebook user wrote on Downdetector, "can't access Facebook, just says account unavailable". Another wrote, "As soon as I log on the website, it says 'account temporary unavailable' the mobile app is fine.

It was not immediately clear what was causing the disruption or how widespread the issues were.

Meta had not publicly commented on the reported outage yet.
