Summary The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299, with 256GB of storage. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 with the same storage.

Apple’s new iPhone 18 Pro models and the all-new iPhone Duo offer very different approaches to the premium smartphone market. While the foldable Duo brings an innovative design and new ways to use an iPhone, the iPhone 18 Pro remains the better choice for users who prioritise price, cameras, battery life and a familiar experience.

Here are five reasons to choose the iPhone 18 Pro over the iPhone Duo.

1. It is more affordable

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299, with 256GB of storage. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 with the same storage.

For the price of the Duo, buyers could get a 1TB iPhone 18 Pro for $1,799 or a 1TB Pro Max for $1,899 and still have money left over.

The difference becomes even more significant for users who need additional storage, with a fully upgraded Duo potentially costing more than $3,000.

2. It offers better cameras

The iPhone 18 Pro has a more advanced camera system than the Duo. It features an 18MP front camera, larger main sensors, a variable-aperture main camera and a 48MP telephoto lens offering up to 8x optical zoom and 40x digital zoom.

Apple has also introduced Pro camera controls and its Reference Image protocol, designed to help verify whether an image is authentic or has been modified using AI.

3. Better battery life

Apple claims the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours of video playback, compared with up to 44 hours on the Duo using its outer display and 31 hours with the larger screen.

The Pro models also charge to 50% in around 15 minutes with a compatible 60W adapter, compared with around 20 minutes for the Duo.

4. Face ID

The iPhone 18 Pro retains Apple’s Face ID technology, while the Duo uses Touch ID.

Although Touch ID remains convenient, Face ID offers a more seamless unlocking experience and has been a key part of the iPhone experience for years.

5. A more familiar experience

The iPhone Duo introduces a completely new way of interacting with an iPhone, including multitasking, Apple Pencil support and multiple display orientations.

That innovation will appeal to many users, but it also comes with a learning curve. The iPhone 18 Pro, meanwhile, offers the familiar iOS experience with fewer compromises.

For buyers who want a proven premium iPhone rather than experimenting with a first-generation foldable, the iPhone 18 Pro remains the safer choice.
