Summary Samsung Galaxy S27 and S27+ may retain 12MP selfie cameras, while the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra could feature upgraded 16MP front cameras.
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ may miss out on a significant front-camera upgrade expected to arrive with the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra. According to a new report, the standard models will retain the same 12MP selfie camera used in the Galaxy S26 lineup.
Galaxy S27 and S27+ to Keep 12MP Front Cameras
Earlier reports suggested that Samsung could introduce an upgraded selfie camera across the Galaxy S27 series. However, information shared by GalaxyClub indicates that the improvements may be reserved for the higher-end models.
The Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are reportedly set to feature a 12MP front-facing camera with autofocus, similar to their predecessors. In contrast, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are expected to receive a new 16MP selfie camera.
It remains unclear whether the upgraded camera will feature a larger sensor or adopt a square sensor format, potentially enabling more flexible framing for selfies and video calls. Similar camera designs have been associated with Apple’s iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 series.
Expected Rear Camera Specifications
The differences between Samsung’s upcoming smartphones may extend beyond their front-facing cameras.
According to previous reports, the Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will feature a triple-camera setup comprising a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera offering 3x optical zoom.
The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra, meanwhile, are expected to deliver more advanced rear-camera hardware.
Both premium models are rumored to feature a 200MP primary camera alongside a 50MP ultrawide sensor. However, their telephoto capabilities could differ significantly.
The Galaxy S27 Pro is reportedly being developed with a 12MP telephoto camera offering either 3x or 3.5x optical zoom. The Galaxy S27 Ultra could go further with a 50MP telephoto camera supporting 5x optical zoom.
A Wider Gap Between Standard and Premium Models?
If these reports prove accurate, Samsung could establish a clearer distinction between its standard Galaxy S27 phones and its premium Pro and Ultra models. While the Galaxy S27 and S27+ may retain capable camera systems, buyers seeking improved selfie photography and more advanced zoom capabilities may need to consider the higher-end devices.
Samsung has yet to officially confirm these specifications, so the reported camera details should be treated as rumors until further information becomes available.
