ANKARA (Dunya News) – Türkiye has strongly condemned drone attacks on two merchant ships in the Black Sea, warning that such incidents pose a threat to international maritime transport and global food security.
According to foreign media reports, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said the two vessels were targeted by drones in the Black Sea after departing from Russia's port of Novorossiysk. Several crew members were injured in the attacks.
The ministry said the condition of the injured crew members is being closely monitored.
Turkish authorities also expressed deep concern over escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea. They said civilian shipping continues to be affected despite repeated warnings, posing a serious risk to global trade and food supplies.
The ministry urged all relevant parties to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the safety of navigation in the Black Sea so that commercial shipping operations are not disrupted.
According to reports, the two vessels targeted in the attacks were Yasar and Nadezhda, which are registered under the flags of Panama and Cameroon, respectively, but are owned by Turkish companies.
