ZIARAT (Dunya News) - Nine police personnel were martyred after heavily armed militants attacked a police checkpost in Balochistan's Ziarat district, while 15 militants were killed during a subsequent joint security operation, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the Ziarat Superintendent of Police (SP), the attackers targeted a police checkpost in the Kach Mangi Phase III area. The assault led to the martyrdom of nine police officials, including two station house officers (SHOs).

The fallen officers include Muhammad Hussain, SHO Mangi, and Sohbat Khan, SHO Kowas. Officials said an intense exchange of gunfire between security personnel and the attackers continued throughout the night.

The bodies of the martyred personnel were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Ziarat, while security was further reinforced across the area following the attack.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister's Adviser for Information Shahid Rind said a joint clearance operation against the militants had been successfully completed in the Mangi area of Ziarat district.

According to Rind, 15 militants were killed during the operation, which involved the Frontier Corps (FC), Balochistan Police, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), the Special Operations Wing (SOW), and the Anti-Terrorism Force (ATF).

He added that DSP Ghulam Sarwar and eight other police personnel safely reached Kach Police Station after navigating difficult mountainous terrain, while Constable Rizwan was also rescued safely during the operation.

Rind said the militants had paid a heavy price for attempting to disrupt peace in Balochistan, adding that the state was responding with full force to terrorist threats and had foiled the attackers' objectives.

He further stated that there would be no safe havens for militants in Balochistan and that every attack would receive a decisive response. Intelligence-based operations against militant groups, he said, would continue with greater effectiveness.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the terrorist attack and paid tribute to the martyred police personnel.

The prime minister offered prayers for the elevation of the martyrs' ranks and expressed condolences to their families, praying for patience and strength during their time of grief.

He also praised the security forces for successfully eliminating 15 militants during the subsequent clearance operation, commending their swift and effective response to the attack.

Shehbaz Sharif said the assault had once again demonstrated that the militant group was an enemy of peace, development, and prosperity in Balochistan. He vowed that the sacrifices of the martyred officers would not be in vain and that those responsible would be held accountable.

"The enemies of peace will not be allowed to undermine stability in Balochistan. Our fight against terrorism will continue until this menace is completely eliminated," the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi praised the police and security forces for killing 15 militants during the operation.

He said the police personnel had laid down their lives while thwarting the militants' objectives and commended the forces for bringing the attackers to justice.

Naqvi added that the nation and its security forces remain determined to foil every attempt by militants to disrupt peace and stability in the country.

Separately, Maryam Nawaz also condemned the attack and paid tribute to the martyred police officers for their sacrifice.

Expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, she said the entire nation stood with them in this difficult time.

Maryam Nawaz said the fight against terrorism is a battle for Pakistan's survival, peace, and stability, stressing that the nation remains united alongside its security forces in confronting the threat posed by terrorism.
