Summary Lahore High Court decides 945 murder and capital sentence references during 15 months amid judicial and case management reforms.

LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) - The Lahore High Court has decided 945 murder and capital sentence references filed against death and life imprisonment convictions over the past 15 months as part of judicial and case management reforms.

Under reforms introduced on the special directions of Chief Justice Lahore High Court Justice Aalia Neelum, a modern case management system and effective monitoring mechanism are being used to expedite the disposal of cases across the province.

According to the data, the Lahore High Court's principal seat and its Multan, Bahawalpur and Rawalpindi benches decided 897 murder references between July 1, 2025 and September 30, 2026.

During the same period, 48 capital sentence references involving convictions under anti-terrorism, anti-narcotics, the Anti-Rape Act and other serious offences were also decided.

Lawyers have appreciated the disposal of a large number of capital sentence cases and praised Chief Justice Aalia Neelum for the judicial reforms.

The Lahore High Court said modern reforms, an improved case management system, active monitoring and a transparency-based strategy had helped reduce the backlog of pending cases and strengthen the confidence of lawyers and litigants in the judicial system.
