Militant is scheduled to appear before Virginia court
WASHINGTON (Dunya News) - The US Justice Department issued a statement following the arrest of IS militant Sharifullah who confessed before FBI officials to assisting in the Kabul attack.
He also identified two of the four arrested attackers.
US authorities stated that Sharifullah had been monitoring law enforcement agencies and security checkpoints manned by American or Taliban forces. He is scheduled to appear before a Virginia court on March 5.
The Justice Department further indicated that Sharifullah has been charged with conspiring to carry out a deadly attack. He is also accused of providing financial support to a terrorist organisation.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth expressed gratitude to Pakistan for the arrest of the Afghan-origin militant leader, Sharifullah, also known as Jafar.
The defense secretary noted that the capture of the mastermind behind the Kabul airport attack was the result of joint efforts between the US and Pakistan.
He added that American intelligence agencies provided crucial information, while Pakistan played a key role in arresting the militant leader, for which Washington remains grateful.
