(Web Desk) – The first Taliban-appointed ambassador met Indian foreign ministry officials in New Delhi to discuss visa, trade and bilateral engagement.
According to Afghan media, Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, a senior member of the Taliban, arrived in Indian capital the other day and assumed the role of Charge d’Affaires at the Afghan mission in Delhi.
Noor is the first diplomat appointed by the Taliban since the group’s return to power in August 2021.
The Indian media reported that Noor held talks in New Delhi with Anand Prakash, an Indian foreign ministry official overseeing Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran.
A statement issued by the Taliban’s embassy in Delhi on Monday said discussions focused on strengthening political and trade ties, including easing visa procedures.
The Taliban envoy raised concerns over visa-related difficulties faced by Afghan traders, students and Afghan nationals currently residing in India.
India does not formally recognise the Taliban administration, but it has maintained working-level engagement to safeguard its strategic and humanitarian interests in Afghanistan.
India’s foreign ministry did not comment publicly on the meeting. However, the Afghan embassy posted a photograph of Noor with Anand.
