Summary According to the IAEA chief, the enriched uranium is believed to be saved in underground tunnels
VIENNA (Dunya News) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi has claimed that most of Iran’s enriched uranium is likely still located in Isfahan.
According to the IAEA chief, the enriched uranium is believed to be saved in underground tunnels.
He added that satellite images show the impact of airstrikes carried out by Israel and the United States.
Grossi said that inspections at the Isfahan nuclear complex were suspended due to the war, and there is suspicion that uranium was moved into tunnels prior to the conflict in June 2025.
He further noted that satellite imagery shows trucks carrying containers entering the tunnels.
The IAEA chief added that a ceasefire agreement would only be possible if Iran is politically ready, stressing that it is crucial to convince Tehran of the importance of negotiations.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Iran to 'get smart soon' and sign a deal, following days of deadlock in efforts to end the conflict and a media report that the US would extend its blockade of Iran's ports.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump, who has said Iran can call if it wants to talk and has stressed repeatedly Tehran cannot have a nuclear weapon, said the country 'couldn't get its act together.'
Iran wants some kind of US acknowledgment of its right to enrich uranium for what it says are peaceful, civilian purposes.
It has a stockpile of roughly 440 kilograms (970 pounds) of uranium enriched to 60%, material that could be used for several nuclear weapons if further enriched.
