TEHRAN (Dunya News) - Iran’s military has decided to increase the range and speed of its missiles, while work has begun to upgrade the weapons with newer technologies, according to an Iranian military spokesman.

Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia, a spokesman for the Iranian Army, said the decision to extend the missiles’ operational range was prompted by the presence of potential adversaries at distances of up to 1,000 kilometers.

He said Iranian missiles used during the recent conflict between Iran and the United States had demonstrated effective performance, leading military authorities to pursue further improvements in their capabilities.

According to the spokesman, missiles operated by Iran’s ground forces were used to target enemy military bases in Kuwait, while cruise missiles launched from Iranian naval platforms successfully struck enemy vessels.

He said Iran planned to further enhance the speed, range and targeting capabilities of its missiles in the future.

He added that the upgrade program had already begun and was intended to strengthen Iran’s defensive capabilities.

The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions and growing concerns over Iran’s missile capabilities.

Iranian officials have repeatedly described the country’s missile program as an important component of its national defense and deterrence strategy.
