CHANDIGARH (Web Desk) - The Indian Punjab Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution demanding the immediate reopening of the Kartarpur Corridor to facilitate Sikh pilgrims travelling to one of their holiest religious sites.
According to media reports, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains moved the resolution, which received unanimous support from lawmakers.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also strongly backed the demand.
The resolution urged the Indian central government to take immediate steps to reopen the corridor and ensure uninterrupted access for pilgrims.
It described the Kartarpur Corridor as a symbol of religious harmony and shared heritage.

The resolution also called for simplifying travel procedures and facilitating Sikh pilgrims visiting Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur.
India closed the corridor on May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam incident.
Political observers say the BJP-led government is using national security concerns for political purposes.
They argue that restricting access to one of Sikhism's holiest sites undermines the religious rights of the Sikh community.
They further maintain that the closure disregards Sikh religious sentiments, sacred beliefs and the community's longstanding desire for unrestricted access to its spiritual heritage.
